What factors are important to email marketing when people read emails on their mobile?
What happens when your beautiful HTML email is sent out and someone opens it on a mobile device, is it going to look as beautiful as the one you made two dozen tweaks to before sending or is it going to turn out as plain text, or even worse gobbledygook and missing images with really bad alt text? Want to know how you can prevent it happening to your email marketing campaign?
With 1 in 5 emails now being opened on a mobile device it is more important than ever to ensure that;
a) Emails render properly
b) They are sent at a reasonable time.
Yes, you might think that people can choose to download mail when they want and normal people don’t download mail when they are asleep but what happens when they forget and you wake them up with a tempting offer…I don’t think they are going to be logging on to complete a sale if they don’t remember their last experience of your business as a positive one.
2 years ago people were probably using the emails more to filter their emails so that when they arrived at their desk they only had the important emails to deal with now they are consuming the content on their mobile platforms – how does this fit into the marketing mix? Ensure that your website loads on a mobile site (bonus tip – Google is loving fast loading sites so ensuring a fast browsing experience won’t do you any harm.)
So, take away for today is make sure your looking good or at least readable on at least Blackberrys, Iphones and increasingly android devices and you are sending it at a time that suits most people, e.g in waking hours!

I couldn’t agree more. Always read email on my iPhone now and get very frustrated when I can see images or use links. Only thing worse is Flash based tools on websites I can’t use when on the go (especially tools which should be particularly useful when mobile).
